Sports Psychology
Golf Professional, Professional Alpine Coach and Graduate psychology student Luke Bosterhous strengthens Dr Freckleton and Jessica's general coaching experience with graduate education in Sports Psychology.

What is Sport Psychology?
Sport Psychology is the study of how the mind influences and affects our performances. Sport Psychology, sometimes referred to as Performance Psychology, and finds its roots in both Kinesiology and Psychology. From the perspective of both movement and mind, Sport Psychology is a fascinating bridge between the two disciplines that studies the interaction of the mind and body and their affect on performance.

How Can Sport Psychology Help You?
Properly learning and using mind strengthening techniques has a profound impact on performance and overall athletic wellbeing. Some of the techniques employed by Sport Psychology Consultants include Relaxation, Imagery, Effective Goal Setting, and Self-Talk Awareness. Coaches and athletes no longer view the strengthening of the mind as therapy for poor performance, but rather a preventative, necessary and beneficial method for reaching one's athletic potential. The effectiveness of Sport Psychology is reaching beyond the world of Athletics and penetrating Business, Education, and other performance-related arenas. Luke's formal training in Western Sport Psychology, extensive coaching background in conjunction with his intimate knowledge and experience with Eastern Philosophy offer a unique blend of approaches to fit any individual's performance needs. From goal setting to meditation, Luke's techniques can help you to train your mind to effectively employ the mental skills you need to attain your goals and realize your potential.

Techniques Used
Energy Control Awareness, Progressive Relaxation, General and Sport-Specific Imagery, Effective Goal Setting, Self-Talk, Meditation, Attraction Imagery, and Bio-Feedback Training.

Lactate Threshold Testing
Lactate threshold testing determines the point at which your lactate threshold (LT) occurs. Lactate threshold is simply when the production of lactate exceeds rate of lactate clearance in the body, at which point lactate begins to accumulate above resting levels during exercise of increasing intensity. Lactate is the amount of hydrogen ions in the blood. As a result of increased hydrogen ions in circulation, the blood becomes acidic resulting in fatigue.

Lactate threshold testing will tell you and your coach how efficient your body is at clearing the lactate produced during exercise. The more efficient your body is, or the higher your lactate threshold, the greater your endurance at a higher pace you will have. The optimal time to get tested are pre-season, two to three in season and peak season test as well as any other pertinent time. Lactate testing can tell you if your training is going in the right direction. With this in mind, testing periodically is recommended.

Heart Rate Training
There are many different elements to your heart rate. We can learn how your body is responding to training or if you are getting sick or how hard you should be training for a particular training session. Finding your target heart rate for a particular training session is important to keep from over or under training.

Nutrition Counseling
Nutrition is a cornerstone of good training. Many people believe you can eat anything if you are active, which is simply not true. As an athlete you should be more careful of what you fuel your body with because maximizing your diet will maximize your performance. An Athlete needs to make sure they are getting enough of the correct nutrients so that they can rebuild muscle and glycogen stores, which helps keep an athlete ready for their next hard race or training session.

Windgate
Windgate is a power and endurance test, the last for 30 seconds at maximum speed against a high braking force, determined by height and weight.

The windgate test will tell you your highest power output in the test, which is an index of anaerobic power, as well as the mean power output, which is the anaerobic capacity. Sprint training can increase both your anaerobic power and capacity. Endurance can be evaluated by taking the difference between each stage then comparing them to each other.

Equipment Evaluation
We offer equipment evaluations to increased efficiency and decrease fatigue and injury in athletes. For example, a cyclist would want to have their saddle height, crank length, stem length as well as many other factors to achieve the most efficient bike economy for you
